Description

General: a rust; infecting Pyrola species (telia) and Spruce species (aecia)
Dimensions: .
Fruit Body: the aecial stage infects the spruce cones, which turn brown prematurely and reveal orange-coloured aeciospores between the cone scales in late summer; the telial stage infects Pyrola species, yellow uredinia uniformlycovering the lower leaf surfaces and sometimes petioles; few records of telia.
Spores: aeciospores broadly ellipsoid, hyaline, thick walled, verruculose-depressed forming a reticulate pattern, 20-35 x 14-24 microns; urediniospores hyaline with yellow content, thick walled, verruculose similar to patterning on aecioispores, 15-22 x 23-24 microns
