Description (Ellis and Ellis)

General: a smut fungus
Dimensions:.up to 10 x 1mm,
Fruit Body: sori blister-like, parallel with the leaf veins

Spores: dark brown in the mass; spore balls 15-35 x 15-22 microns, each composed of 1 or 2 reddish-brown spores 12 - 16 microns dia., surrounded by yellowish sterile cells
Odour: none
Taste: none
Chemical Tests :none
Occurrence: rare, on leaves of Colchicum autumnale (Autumn Crocus, Meadow Saffron, Nakes Ladies), C. vernum, Bulbocodium vernum
