Thanks Roy, just about as confusing as I thought. My heart sank when I saw the extra terminology in the Lactarius volume. My main source of reference is "How to Identify Mushrooms to Genus III: Microscopic Features" by David Largent, et al.I find it very approachable but still experience difficulty in interpreting what I am seeing, especially when over enthusiastic with the squash.

Hello Richard,

some hyphal cells. Nothing of relevance. You see some septae between the cells which seem to have no clamp connections. What is not really surprinsing in Russula ;)
