Heather, I have sent you a PM with some info, which aligns well with what Leif and Neil have said.

I don't know where in the country you are but the Postal Microscopical Soc's AGM will be at Lutterworth on 8th May. Later in May, Sunday 23rd, there's a session on the use of stereo microscopes, lighting and cameras which will be held at Northampton. There's also a meeting at Northampton, hosted by the NNHS, in June. That usually has a few traders and some private sales.

For a practical class in making slides (permanent mounts rather than "squash-it for ID only") of fungi, rusts, smuts and lichens, there's a residential weekend course in Ipswich in Aug/Sep. This is run on two weekends - same course material on both but different students. Suitable for beginners and those with some slide making experience.

See: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/postalmicsoc/meet.html for more info.

Good hunting!
John
