Recomended stains?

Recomended stains?

What stains do people recommend? To date I use Congo red in household ammonia for hyphae, and Cotton Blue for spores, as the latter sometimes shows the ornamentation better. I guess Melzer's is another one to try.

One of the more recent stains and reagents in the ABFG supply range is Chlorazol black. More and more people seem to be turning to it as an excellent stain for spore ornamentation and other fine detail. It is in stock. The Forayer has run an extended series of articles on the use of its stains for both macro and micro application in mycology, and an abstract of this was published at the beginning of 2009, which I am sure can be PDF copied and sent to you. To obtain the full set of articles in PDF would take a bit longer at this time of year!
