Lichen pictures and info

Have been grubbing round trying to get a not too expensive guide to Lichen. The Roger Phillips we have must have been a printer's reject as the photo prints are very poor.Common British Lichens does not have modern "bright" prints. The FSC of which we have 4 guides seem to have too small a picture, when we put a lens on them the "dots" in the print come up,no increase in picture detail.Lichens by William Purvis is interesting but global. The Cladonia field guide from JNCC is line drawings which does suggest the easiest use is to---collect some and take them home for comparison with drawings.
Rather where we were with "Odonata" before Hammond in 1983.Previous info was Lucas 1901 and Longfield 1949.
Probably missed some worthy publication,in which case will be interested to know.

David
I use "Lichens: An Illustrated Guide to the British and Irish Species" by Frank S Dobson, 2005 fifth revised edition. The images are a tad on the small size and some lack clarity but the text, drawings and mapping are very good. This can be used in conjuction with some good websites for better quality images such as: www.irishlichens.ie and www.lichens.ie.
I don't know its current status but Google should come up with something.

Today whilst visiting Google and asking about "Dobson" books, our corres on this forum appeared! Google didn't provide what I was looking for(neither did Amazon)--an illustration of a page in the more expensive tomes.Do like reasonable size clear pictures to mark items as possible and then try to prove it..Black and white drawings and copious text was par for the course on old Odonata books written by Entomologists.

For reference:
Frank Dobson "Lichens" 1981 is in Black and White
Frank Dobson "An Illustrated Guide to the British and Irish Species" is in "natural" colour, not heightened for effect!.
Somerfields still have a couple left(slightly damaged".
Now trying to make sense of Lichen on Concrete blocks and posts, just found some on wall slabs in front garden, something to pass the time!
