Look for a cream or brownish-yellow rosette of thin, tough lobes; solitary or gregarious in rows, on soil in mixed woods, generally with beech.

Dimensions: 3-10cm dia

Fruit body: Upper surface (or individual lobes), orange-brown to darker brown, sometimes weakly zoned, irregularly wavy; lower hymenial surface white, cream, brownish-yellow, villose, longitudinally furrowed and veined; when damp elastic, tough; when dry, brittle.

Odour: Not distinctive.

Taste: Sour.

Occurrence: Autumn.
