DescriptionGeneral: Pale greyish-brown bulb surmounting a darker greyish-brown star-shaped base, which raises the spore sac above the surrounding substrate when damp; strongly hygroscopic; solitary or in small groups in deciduous woodlands or hedgerows on well-drained base rich soil.Dimensions: Unopened bulb 1.0-2.5cm dia; expanded 1.5-6.0cm dia. Fruit Body: Exoperidium greyish-brown splitting into 6-10 rays; endoperidium greyish-brown or pale brown, sessile, sub-spherical, smooth or minutely pruinose; peristome fibrillose and distinctly delimited. Gleba: Dark brown. |
Spores: 3.5-4.5µm, spherical, verrucose with guttule. Basidia not seen. Odour: Not distinctive. Taste: Not distinctive. Chemical Tests: None. Occurrence: Autumn. |
