DescriptionGeneral: Small pinkish-brown funnel-shaped cap with paler margin and spiny under-surface; solitary or in groups, often fused, on soil in broad leaf and coniferous woods.Dimensions: Cap 3-10cm dia; stem 1-5cm tall x 1-3cm dia. Fruit Body: Cap at first pallid then wine red with brighter red guttation drops that dry dull brown, margin white when young; shallowly infundibuliform, rosette-shaped, radially wrinkled, with small spiky projections and coarsely roughened at the centre; stem reddish-brown, equal or tapering downwards, downy or smooth, wrinkled; flesh: brown with pink tinge, often darker spotted; tough, corky; spines at first pallid then russet brown, decurrent, coarse. |
Spores: Light brown, bluntly tuberculate, sub-spherical, non-amyloid, 5-6 x 4.0-4.5 µm . Basidia 4 spored; cystidia absent. Odour: Faintly Sour. Taste: Hot, Acrid. Chemical Tests: None. Occurrence: Late Summer to Autumn. |
