DescriptionGeneral: Small pinkish-brown funnel-shaped cap with paler margin and spiny under-surface; solitary or in groups, often fused, on soil in broad leaf and coniferous woods.Dimensions: Cap 2-4.5cm dia; stem 1-2cm tall x 0.2-1.0cm dia. Fruit Body: Cap at first pallid then pinkish-brown, darkening towards the centre, margin more pallid; shallowly infundibuliform, rosette-shaped, radially wrinkled, with small spiky projections and coarsely roughened at the centre; stem concolorous, equal or tapering downwards, downy or smooth, wrinkled; flesh: brown with pink tinge, often darker spotted; tough, corky; spines at first pallid then russet brown, decurrent, coarse. |
Spores: Light brown, tuberculate, sub-spherical, non-amyloid, 5.5-6.5 x 4.5-5.5 µm . Basidia 4 spored; cystidia absent. Odour: Faintly Sour. Taste: Hot, Acrid. Chemical Tests: None. Occurrence: Late Summer to Autumn. |
