Residential learning courses

In 2008 the Association ran two successful residential courses, at Cricket St Thomas Hotel in Somerset and Holme Lacy House near Hereford, aimed at both beginners and people who already have a grounding in learning about fungi but want to gain more practical experience. This year sadly the number of courses, in conjunction with our partners, Warner Leisure Hotels, had to be reduced at short notice due to the indisposution of the course leader, for which the ABFG apologises to anyone whose course was cancelled.

We shall, however, be running futher courses in the autumn of 2009. Details will be posted on this page.

Each course runs for two full days Tuesday and Wednesday, with an introductory welcome on the Monday evening. Each course comprises at least two mushroom forays in some glorious surroundings and two easy-going workshops. If you want to obtain a good grounding in fungi recognition, this is an excellent way of achieving your aim among friendly people with a shared interest. The days are relaxed and intended to be recreational as well as putting you on a learning curve.

Each course is led by Michael Jordan, the CEO of the ABFG.

The cost at these prestigious country hotels includes half board (+packed lunch) and a range of additional recreational facilities and evening entertainment. Discounts are available to ABFG members.
