Taxonomic name changes

Postby Roy Miller » Thu Dec 17, 2015 12:58 pm

Does their exist somewhere a comprehensive list of taxonomic name changes to fungi that have occurred since 2005?

By accessing the CATE database one can acquire any synonym of a species, but it would be nice to see the changes on one list.

An aside, forum is very quiet, why so?

Alas, no. There are probably far too many to be realistic in terms of a list, and it would have to be updated more or less daily!! We have repeatedly asked Kew (Mycology) for more constructive liaison about taxon changes, without response. CATE2 is kept as up-to-date as possible through the Species Fungorum and by word-of-mouth. The British Checklist is not a particularly reliable source. But I'm also not entirely sure what publishing a list would achieve, beyond a reaction of 'Gosh! Is it that many!' One valuable aspect of CATE2 (public access) that Roy has not mentioned is the reverse of what he points out. Yes, you can access all the synonyms, but you can also put in a synonym and come up with the current approved taxon version. There is a critical comment on the 'taxon-change-jamboree' by the way on the last feature page of the current Forayer.
