Poisoning rates soar

A report issued on behalf of the UK Health Protection Agency's National Poisons Information Service confirms that up to the 27th September 2010 (still fairly early in the season), NHS staff sought advice on 209 cases of suspected poisoning. This was almost double the previous year’s tally of 123 cases. Significantly about a third of the victims were wild mushroom-pickers.

If enough responsible people complained to the shop manager something serious would be said to the publishers of Bushcraft.

I wonder how much this has to do with increased foraging activity, and how much to do with it being a good year for A. phalloides and virosa. I have personally seen more of both of those species in 2010 than any of the previous 20 years. I have also seen more foragers.
